Leuchars is home to a very dedicated bunch of people with some extraordinary imaginations and building skills. The club are well-known and respected competitors every year at the "Claymore" wargames show in Edinburgh, "Skelp" at Forfar, “Targe” in Kirrriemuir, “Carronade” at Falkirk, and the Scottish Modellers Association show in Perth.

The club were congratulated in the local press for a re-enactment of the Battle of Camperdown in Dundee Museum, on the 200th Anniversary (Admiral Duncan's fleet sailed from Dundee to victory off the Dutch coast). They are also presenting “Saving Private Ryan” at the Gordon Highlanders Museum in Aberdeen, January 2007.

The club can always be depended upon to provide an excellent participation game at many an association meet.

World War One at Christmas 2007

The Leuchars club again hosted wargamers from the Angus and Falkirk clubs, over Christmas 2007. This year's special game was a battle from the Mons campaign in the early stages of World War One.
Fought on an 18 feet wide and 8 feet broad table, it boasted 1664 figures, in over 110 units of infantry, cavalry and artillery.
Spurred on by the French attacking with considerable elan, an Allied front of 4 divisions cleared the front trench line. However, even with a committed reserve division of Scots, only half of the second line was taken before the Germans poured in their own reserves to bring the attack to a halt.

Leuchars receives visitors for Ancients game at Christmas 2006

The annual Christmas Special for 2006 was a game of Ancients in 25mm, an ambush on a very large Roman column by German barbarian warriors.
It featured over 1500 figures in 25mm scale, and was attended by 7 Leuchars club members, 2 visitors from Elgin (namely Dougie and Shaggy, as known to RAFWA members) and 5 members of the Angus Wargamers, based in Forfar.
The occasion was used to launch “The Hand Grenade Challenge”, which is a full-scale trophy of a hand grenade with the pin and clip removed! At the end of a good long day of gaming, the trophy was handed over to the Chairman of the Angus club by Jed Harbidge-Rose, OIC Leuchars club. The possession of the grenade signifies that it is their turn to host the next meeting between our clubs!

Leuchars Christmas Special was a D-Day 6 June 1944 spectacular - Dec 2005
The Leuchars Christmas Special for 2005 was a D-Day 6 June 1944 spectacular, played over 2 days. It consisted of 9 tables, each 60 square feet, and covering all 5 landing beaches, plus 2 British and 2 American airborne drop zones. Players were invited from all over eastern Scotland, with 15 attending on Day 1. There were dozens of gliders and landing craft, hundreds of vehicles, and thousands of figures. Some of the terrain was on loan, but most of the other kit was actually available from the Leuchars club.

British and their Allies (Leuchars Club) were beaten at Waterloo by the French (the Angus Wargamers) - Jan 2005
The British and their Allies (the Leuchars Wargamers) were beaten at Waterloo by the French (the Angus Wargamers), who were invited onto RAF Leuchars for the day on January 29th 2005. A total of 13 gamers had a great day, fostering better ties amongst the Scottish wargaming community. Angus have beaten Leuchars twice now, so Leuchars are going up there next time for a well-deserved revenge raid!

Leuchars Club finally plays Star Wars game - Jul 2004
Leuchars' Wargamers have waited many years for a promised game of "Hoth". 14 AT-ATs in 1/200 scale were used (which will cause some norbert to poke his glasses up the bridge of his nose, and point out that they only used 12 in the film), with 7 smaller AT-STs and masses of white-clad Imperial Troopers, the defenders had their hands full. Their objective was to keep the Alliance X-Wings hangar defended for as long as possible, but their outer ring of rebels in trenches and remote turrets was no match for the heavy Imperial kit. Snowspeeders, however, achieved small successes by flying through the legs of the massive walkers, and attempting to hobble them with grappling lines. None were brought crashing to earth in this way, but they were stopped, forcing their cargo of Troopers to disembark a long way from their objectives. Still, within just a couple of hours, the majority of the walkers were through the second line, which included a ring of remote lasers and more wretched dug-in infantry. By now, the rebels were able to range in their heavier blasters from atop the bunkers leading down to the hangars. Also, X-Wings were now taking part in the action. The final fling for the Alliance defenders was a small unit of Tonton cavalry, but they stood no chance against the Imperial monsters, now looming over the entrance bunkers..... er, game over, then!

Club Goes for an Indian - Feb 2004
As any ole Injun fighter knows, ya gotta circle them wagons tight, 'cos here they come, a-whoopin' an' a-hollerin'.........

Club Takes A Dive - Jan 2004
The intrepid denizens of Leuchars have been gaming underwater. A small force of Stingray subs fought off several dastardly missile attacks from a fleet of Terrorfish, then protected Marineville from the amorous advances of a lonesome Giant Crab. What larks!

Traditional Annual "Special" 2003
Held between Christmas and New Year. This year it was "Tarawa" (World War Two 1943), American Marines storm Japanese-held Pacific coral atoll.
