Medieval

There has never been a Medieval competition organised by the RAFWA, but the period has long been a favourite at some of our unit clubs.  It has been a while since 15mm was the popular scale, but there are now many providers of excellent figures and equipment in 25mm/28mm.  With the advent of Games Workshop involvement in this area, it is obvious that the larger scale is here to stay.

One of our clubs, RAF Leuchars, has been running a 25mm Medieval campaign for over 3 years. Based on an imaginary feudal region somewhere in rural England, each player commands an army which expands or contracts with his fortunes. This month's enemy was last month's sworn ally.  Battles are fought once monthly, but after 34 battles, the joint "leaders" have only won 13 times!  There have been a total of 20 players, with 13 still current. When players are posted to other units, their characters are said to have gone away to the crusades. For the last 5 years, Leuchars has also run a Joust for these characters and their entourages, after the club AGM.
